There’s a wonderful, poetic paragraph (admid all the other wonderfully written paragraphs) in Ms. DiCamillo’s book, The Magician’s Elephant, “But that is impossible,” said Peter. “Magic is always impossible,” said the magician. “It begins with the impossible and ends with the impossible and is impossible in between. That is why it is magic.”
She has written a lovely book, one that you could pull down from the shelf at any time over the years and read any paragraph of it and be inspired. It’s a story like a string of perfect pearls: each character is right and sweet and hopeful. Each is a dreamer and a believer.
Read and enjoy. And thank you, Ms. DiCamillo.

Newbery Medal winning author Kate DiCamillo (Tale of Desperaux, Because of Winn-Dixie) will be the featured guest artist of the Washburn High School Foundation’s Inaugural Artist Series on Thursday, December 9th at 6:30p in the Washburn auditorium. Hosted by Dan Olson, from Minnesota Public Radio, Ms. DiCamillo will be interviewed by students, parents, and community members beginning at 6:30p with a book-signing beginning at 7:30p.
Recognizing the importance of a balanced educational and experiential program, the Artist Series aims to bring local artists from across the wide spectrum of disciplines to share their stories with our community to serve as inspiration to our children and connect artists back to the roots of the community. By brining successful artists who support public education into an urban setting we hope to raise awareness about the arts and create a stronger community in the Washburn area.
